Lost in Space was a fav of mine. Although I wanted to be Judy, I loved the Robot. I wanted episodes where Judy and the Robot went on adventures, instead of the effeminate Dr. Smith and that brat Will. The first season was classic science fiction--very exciting. The two following seasons were very silly, typified by the worse episode of all: Planet of the Vegetables, complete with a talking carrot!

Actually, if you think about it. A talking carrot could be quite scary. (At least that's what my broccoli tells me.)

I can just image one of these 50's B Movies called The Invasion of The Talking Carrots ;D Easily. However, LIS's man in a carrot suit wasn't quite the same.

I bet it was a bit of a giggle ;D You mean you've never seen it? It was aweful. There is even a scene where the actor playing Major West is seen turning away from the camera trying to control his laughter.

I loved Lost in Space. It was re-run on FX289 which is available on Sky and I loved it all over again. I was kind of hoping that Doctor Who wouldnt lose the cliffhangers by resolving the story and then going into the next one and leaving it on a cliffhanger for the next week. Lost in Space did this really well and it made you want to watch the following week. Other shows such as The Time Tunnel and more recently Quantum Leap used it to goo effect too.

I have mixed feelings about cliffhangers. On one hand they do make me want to see the next show. On the other, I know I'm being emotionally manipulated, and I want closure.
But I guess it's best for the show to have them, especially the series-end cliffhangers.

I thought Judy was pretty hot. And was disappointed she was kept in the background. But the Robot was the coolest, much better than the ubiquitous "Robbie". By coincidence (or not) both were designed by the same Japanese designer.

The robot was rather engaging I admit.
I think Judy and Major West were going to become a major subplot in the series. But after the first season, nothing. They never even kissed if I recall correctly.
I think the Will-Smith-Robot plots just pushed everything else out.

But I guess it's best for the show to have them, especially the series-end cliffhangers. I can see what you mean about wanting closure, but Lost in Space closed the story and moved on to the next one in the same episode leaving you with a cliffhanger that teased you in to wanting to know what the next story was about. Time Tunnel did exactly the same. Quantum leap also played out the full story and then Sam leaped into the next body, providing a teaser for the next episode before that episode had ended. Anyway, off topic I know, but the cliffhangers was what Doctor Who was all about for me, but the stories were normally spread over four parts.
