The Doctor glanced back and noticed the Rutan dip its tentacles into the river, sending electricity crackling across the surface. He grabbed Anna and hoisted her into the boat. He then lifted himself into the boat and turned to Viebel, grabbing an oar. 'Time to leave!' he cried.
'But what of the other Sontaran?' Viebel asked resuming his rowing.
The Doctor looked back at the Rutans advancing across the river and sighed. 'If we don't get out of here we're going to learn why you should never take out an umbrella in a thunder storm.' He saw the temple up ahead and continued rowing. 'So we carry on to the temple.'
'Temple?' Anna asked. 'Doctor there's something you need to know about the temple.' She produced Morgan's diary from her pocket, she handed it to him.
He looked at the cover and flicked through the pages. 'Morgan? Frank Morgan?' He knew the name from somewhere but couldn't place it.
'Yeah he was with the Universal Conservationist Bureau...read the last couple of pages.'
The Doctor looked at the last couple of pages. 'Oh....oh dear.' He looked up at Viebel. 'Did Styger and the other Sontaran enter the temple?'
'I believe so....why?'
The doors had opened, Morgan hadn't heard those doors open in a good long while. The Priest? Or had the Sontarans finally made it to the temple looking for what they had left behind? He turned on the monitors and found his answer. He stood up and walked towards his cabinet, opening the doors and trying to find the data tablet, he had figured out what it was, DNA, presumably of Sontaran origin. He placed it on the desk and pondered what he was going to do next. He could try and reason with them, hand over the data and hope they leave him, but he remembered what happened that fateful morning so many years ago, when he discovered the true devastating power of the temple. Maybe he could use the temple to his advantage once more, kill them, and he could go back to the peace and quiet. His fingers hovered over the control panel, just as the doors opened once more.
The Doctor, Anna and Viebel got off the boat and made their way up the steps to the entrance of the huge stone temple, a huge spire reaching to the sky with a pink crystal at the centre of the tip.
'The whole temple is a weapon...' Anna whispered. '...but the people in the village believe it's controlled by some great god, could it be Morgan?'
The Doctor nodded, making sure he was out of earshot of Viebel. 'Almost certainly...but living in exile here for so many years, there's a dangerous risk he's started to believe he is the Great Protector. Then we will have a problem.' He watched as Viebel threw open the doors to the temple. 'I need you to distract Viebel whilst I go speak to Morgan. I can't risk letting Viebel know the truth.'
'Distract them? Left my juggling balls back in the TARDIS.'
The Doctor arched an eyebrow. 'I'm sure you'll figure something out.'
They entered the great chamber, the Doctor looking for the maroon curtain that hid the weapons system. The wounded Sontaran was sat up against a stone column, clutching his wound. 'Krier couldn't make it I'm afraid, but some friends of yours are making their way here.'
Styger cursed. 'Then this will be my final battle Doctor, once we retrieve the data-print, I will entrust you Doctor, to return it to Sontaran High Command.'
The Doctor raised his eyebrows, catching sight of the curtain, then began looking around the temple, aware that the weapon system could come to life at any moment. 'I'm sure they'll be really glad to see me.' He muttered, turning towards the curtain. 'I think we should split up, Anna, Viebel you're looking for a data-pad try down past the statues. Styger, you should probably guard the chamber from the Rutans.' The Sontaran nodded. The Doctor waited for Anna and Viebel to leave, before slipping through the maroon curtain to find a bank of monitors and a dishevelled old bespectacled man perched on a stool watching everything with his hand on a lever. 'Doctor Morgan I presume?'
'But what of the other Sontaran?' Viebel asked resuming his rowing.
