I"m at a disadvantage. Growing up in the US, I've only been exposed to 4 Doctors. Tom Baker -- the man who originally made me a fan of the franchise. Sylvester McCoy. Christopher Eccelston and David Tennant. Oh yeah and that guy who starred in the 1996 movie --I forget his name. Of the ones I'm familiar with, McCoy would be my least favorite. But I have seen pictures of Colin and I despise that coat!!! Hideous..

That coat is certainly worth your ire. How was John Nathan Turner thinking?

Anyway, my least favourite was probably Patrick Troughton. I liked his interaction with Pertwee in the two episodes they were together, but other than that, he's a bit TOO cosmic hobo for my taste. I can only stand so much bumbling.

I think my least favourite would have to of been Colin Baker and Paul MCgann. And my favourite would be Peter Davison!

Liked Davison. Hated Colin Baker, but not personally. McGann never had a chance with such as rubbish script.
Preferred Troughton, Tom Baker and now Tennant.

McGann and Baker have redeemed themselves with cracking scripts in the Big Finish audios, I was back home this weekend and listened to Max Warp and The Condemned on the bus there and back, both are fantastic stories and both Doctors are on top form.
My least favourite Doctor? Hmmm...I'm tempted to say Eccleston (Is that allowed? Haha!) but I kind of love them all in their own ways. It's the stories and production values that let them down more than their performances. So yeah, probably Eccleston because he just couldn't do the eccentric nature of the Doctor.

I agree. Eccleston wasn't very Doctorish. I find him acceptable as a dark brooding version of the Doctor, a result of his great loss in the Time War.

I agree! Eccleston to be honest was a bit to rush over there rush over here but I guess most of his episodes were 45mins or less. The old Doctors had much more time to work things out as they had more time and episodes. When I think of the Doctor I think a a long scarf, floppy hat and jelly babies.

Ditto! Personally, I thought Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy were about equal in the badness stakes, with Colin seeming worse due to that awful costume.

Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy are two of my favourites. They were both dark and mysterious in their own way - latter era McCoy bordered on frightening - which made them seem more powerful.
And whilst it doesn't really do much for the performance, I have met Colin Baker and he was charming and seems to love the show a lot. Infact, McCoy and Colin Baker have been the most loyal to the show unlike, say, Tom Baker who distances himself from it.
Added to that, the 80s was far better than the 70s as it was more serious, had better writers and wasn't just a campy farce. The plotlines were deep, engaging, philosophical and intelligent. Colin Baker's first story was bad, and 'Timelash' wasn't too great, but the rest were pretty consistent and OK. McCoy's first season wasn't good but his other seasons were excellent and had a dark mysterious quality that went out the window with T. Baker.
There are only three I cannot stand much, no offense to their actors, which are Tennant, Ecclestone and Tom Baker. Tom Baker didn't take the role seriously and wanted it to be a Douglas Adams styled space farce with unbelievable plots and childish, clownish humour. Worst era, as a whole, of classic Who, IMO.
Ecclestone was a U-Boat captain and Tennant was just a man in a suit who likes the phrase '' allons y''. No thanks, I'll pass.

I have inherrited the same "Anti-Tom Baker Gene" as Hoichi. I just can't see the attraction. Sorry.
So that makes three of us along with my good friend Tourian (if anyone remembers him?).
