It is better than new Who, however, it could be a lot better. Eva Myles is cute and competent as an actress; major factors differentiating her from Billie Piper, who I think is vastly overrated as an actress.
The sex Alien was a bit.......over the top.......

And the rest of us? Too early to say I'm afraid. It is co-funded by the Canadian Broadcasting Company so they'll be getting it at some point.

I finally got to see an episode of this last night, not having been able to watch it last Sunday or Wednesday. I expected it to be bad, given that it's been created by RTD, and has Jack as its lead character. To my surprise, it was better than I had expected. Not good, but not as godawful as I feared, either. The underlying idea for the plot was quite good, but it was not well-realised, and the whole episode was too slow and ponderous. I could have done without the scene where Jack was teaching the girl to shoot (what was being hinted at here, I wonder!?), and the domestics. And John Barrowman was as wooden as a plank. Being blunt about it, he simply cannot act.
I may watch next week's episode, I may not. It was nothing exceptional, and the kindest thing I can think of to say is, it wasn't as bad as I'd feared.

Ah, the old "comparing guns and firing off rounds" sexual metaphor, in everything from Lethal Weapon to westerns throughout the ages.
But I thoroughly enjoyed episode 3, much better than the previous 2, hopefully it's hitting its stride. Next weeks looks interesting!

Doesn't it just!
I was a bit disappointed with this epiosde to be truthful, but It was enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing more aliens (not just Aliens made from smoke that have a craving for sex). The Weaval attack in the first epiosde was great and I'd like to see more death and blood. (Happy fella aren't I?)

Torchwood... hmm. Had mixed feelings before airing, but since seeing catch-up clips on YouTube, I think... that I do not wish to see this.
That feels strange to say. I'm sure there are clever plots, effects, acting etc. But I get the impression this later timeslot has given the crew free rein to head off in the darker direction some have wanted... the unsavoriness that found its way into Who 'family viewing' in 2005 more than ever before (less so in 2006? why I wonder) but now even more so in Torchwood.
I think if I watched Torchwood, it would also be in the background of my mind when watching Who, and would taint my enjoyment of David Tennant's Doctor. I hope they don't attempt to bring elements of Torchwood back into Who, but keep them separate.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say Torchwood is bad, I don't think it's particularly inspiring either, what I've seen of it so far. Episode 4 was less dull than the previous week's offering, but pretty much run-of-the-mill action movie stuff. And again, I found it very predictable. I can't understand why people say that the endings took them by surprise, I saw them coming a mile off. But by far the worst thing about the show is John Barrowman. He's painful to watch. He should go off somewhere and get someone to teach him to act. I may look in on this again after Channel 4 have finished showing the Lord of the Rings films, but to be honest, it's not worth missing Lord of the Rings for.

Just be thankful that Billie Piper isn't in it also! Send her to the Circus Maximus!!!!

Personally, it's RTD who I'd rather see in the Circus Maximus!

I've just watched ep.5 and personally i think its the best of the lot so far. It was very suspenseful, plus a neat twist at the end where the little girl, Jasmine as "The Chosen One" walks of with those faries, or whatever they were.

It's very very hit and miss, 1 and 2 were awful, 3 was much much better, 4 was nothing short of disappointing and 5 was a cracker. I'm undecided about episode 6, it was a very Brecon Beacons Chainsaw Massacre. I feel that sometimes it tries too hard to be adult instead of telling good stories and making us care about the characters, 3 and 5 are perfect examples of how it is possible to make a slightly more grown up Doctor Who spin-off without being gratuitous.

Countrycide started well enough but very quickly became the worst episode of the series. And the most derivative. You could predict every last second of it. And that's been the main problem with the series so far.
The only part I didn't see coming was
SPOILER
. . .
In Everything Changes when Suzie shoots Jack in the head.
. . .
SPOILER ENDS

And the rest of us? Out in the cold as usual. But hopefully, the SciFi Channel will pick it up. They seem to be rotating Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica with the two Stargates. The only problem with that is that a Galactica season has more episodes than DW. Hopefully, they'll fill the gap with Torchwood.
