I just saw a string of old Battlestar Galactica episodes from 1978-79 on a SciFi Channel marathon. Wow, I forgot how bad the dialog and acting was.
The new series is so much better, and not because of the effects.

Yes, they never seemed to have the appropiate level of grief, considering such a great holocaust had occurred. Even in the pilot, Starbuck was being enticed by entertainment and gambling.
And even then, I thought the dialogue was rather wooden.
