What with the "regeneration" in last weeks Doctor Who, it got me thinking; If you were in the producers role of Doctor Who, who would you shortlist when David Tennant decides to pass on the TARDIS key? My shortlist: - Sean Pertwee.
A very British actor with an obvious pedigree in Time Lord. One I've mooted before and not just because of his father. He has a very commanding appearence and I can see him as a more traditional Doctor.
- Philip Glennister.
Would be nice to see an older Doctor and I think that Glennister could do this. I know that he may have the Gene Hunt stigma, but I have also seen him in period dramas such as Hornblower and he is a really good actor and could easily command the presence of the Doctor.
- Richard Coyle.
Better known as Jeff from coupling, but if anyone has access to the series "Strange", co-starring Samantha Janus, I suggest that you check it out. A potential Doctor in the making if ever I saw one.
- Alan Davies.
Yes, Jonathan Creek, but wasn't that just a four series long audition for the Doctor?

I think things need to be very different once Tennant leaves. Maybe an older Doctor with a pair of companions to give that pseudo-sexual tension so beloved of RTD's reign.
I'd love to see Hugh Laurie in the role, his performance in House shows just what a brilliant and multi-layered actor he is, perfect for the role of the Doctor.
Another fantastic actor who, fair enough has recently played a lot of cops, but has also played an alcoholic down on his luck double glazing salesman (opposite David Tennant no less!), a homeless man, an Israeli arms dealer and indeed, Tony Hancock. I'd give anything to see Ken Stott attempt the role of the Doctor.
I've been watching Bill Patterson in Criminal Justice and think maybe he might be rather good as an older Doctor. 2 Scots? Blimey!

Deffo not Jonathan Creek thanks. Top of my short list would be Andrew Lincoln from Love Actually, Teachers and Afterlife. He can do the Doctor with glasses too
