I generally like the Olympics, but I'm not fan of what China has been doing. They have put thousands of farmers out of business, just so there will be enough water for the Olympics.

I heard that half the Chinese Olympic team is under the minimum age of 16. Their cheating is not limited to lip syncing, is it?

The Chinese have a history of non-compliance with generally accepted international rules and customs, ie: patents, trademarks, copyrights, etc. I also find it interesting that the Chinese are running the Olympic anti-doping lab and have a record number of 39 Gold Medals (versus 12 for Great Britain and 22 for the United States). Coincidence?

Oh Chinese cheaters! Did you see what happened last night? The Chinese and American gymnists tied, but they gave the gold to the Chinese one!

The IOC has launched an inquiry into the ages of the Chinese gymnists. Of course, the Chinese government has control over all documents. The gymnists were reissued passports with revised birthdates. My, my.

Ah, the China-bashing continues. Thank goodness the Olympics are over. Well, I will be no party to bashing China - only the current government. China has given the world many great inventions and philosophical ideas and is one of the oldest countries in the world (not to mention one of the earliest advanced cultures). Where would we be without stirrups, paper, tea and wooded rectangular coffins, Zhang Zi-Yi and her adorably big ears, gunpowder, civil service examinations and much more?

The Chinese have a history of non-compliance with generally accepted international rules and customs, ie: patents, trademarks, copyrights, etc. In their defence, the UK and especially the US have a history of non-compliance with international laws; just look at the war in Iraq. Regardless of whether the war was right or wrong, it runs contrary to UN rulings.

I don't think most people have any quarl with the Chinese people. I agree Chinese culture has given the world much. It is the government that most people have a problem with. If the people fail to live up to international standards, it is only because they were isolated from the world by their oppressive Communist government.

Regardless of whether the war was right or wrong, it runs contrary to UN rulings. Having once spoken to a lawyer on the subject, technically there is no such thing as "international law", as there is no governing body. There are merely cooperating bodies. Technically, China was not breaking laws when they violate copyrights and trademarks; it merely pisses everyone else off. It is an evolving set of issues. War on the other hand is a completely different issue. In war, there is no "cooperation" between the warring parties. This is not to defend the war in Iraq at all.
