I've seen some trailers for this new series called Santuary starring Amanda Tapping, former of Stargate SG1. It looks rather creepy. Does anyone know much about it?

Can't say I've heard anything about it. Is it an American thing?

It's coming up soon on American SciFi. It features Amanda Tapping as a 150-year old woman, (but looking quite sexy in black hair). Her character, Helen Magnus has a Victorian accent. (Actually, Tappings mother is English, and she grew up in England.)
I believe the Sanctuary is physically set in England, but I'm not sure. Apparently, there will be flashbacks to the Victorian era.
The premise is that there are many non-humans in the world, and she provides sanctuary for them. Some will be good; some will be evil. It looks to be quite an exciting series. If the show is as exciting as the previews, then it's understandable why she left Atlantis.

I've seen it. It's OK, but I'm lukewarm about it. I definitely like Amanda Tapping better as Samantha Carter.
