General Lowery returned to his office after a rather boring meeting at the Ministry which had seemed to go on forever. He opened the safe intent on leafing through the file about the Brigadier but it wasn’t there, he went through all the rest of the files thinking he might have overlooked it but it was missing.. He made a phone call
“Captain Evans will you come into my office right away please, there appears to be a problems!” he snapped.
Captain Evans was a woman in her early thirties she rushed into Lowery’s office
“Sir I’ve been trying to get a message to you, seems there is some trouble at Honeysuckle Cottage we can’t get hold of Corporal Jennings he’s not answering the phone nor his radio, I’ll send some one out there to investigate shall I?” she began.
“First things first Captain! Somebody has been in my office whilst I have been out and taken the file from my safe that contains information on Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart. Very few people have the combination for the safe which means we have a thief, I want this investigating Captain Evans you will search this building from top to bottom, leave no stone unturned and bring the culprit to me” Lowery boomed.
“Yes of course sir I shall see to it right away, but what is so important about a file on Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart!” Evans replied.
“Never mind that for the moment Captain just find it and fast. Right I’d better go and see what is happening over at Honeysuckle Cottage, we don’t want any mishaps to occur at such a crucial time” Lowery replied.
Captain Evans saluted and went to mobilise a search part, she couldn’t believe Lowery was getting upset over a file since there was nothing in it of any secrecy or at least she didn’t think so. Although there was an air of mystery about Lowery himself something that seemed menacing that she couldn’t quite put her finger on.
At Honeysuckle Cottage Jennings had gone to investigate the sound of broken glass, he found the kitchen window had been broken. The glass crunched under his feet. Then he heard the sound of heavy footsteps that seemed to be coming from the hallway, he ran to see who it was but there was nobody there, he decided to go upstairs and check on the patient but as he reached the top a pair of red eyes were staring at him from the landing, he raised his rifle but lost his balance and went tumbling back down the stairs, landing in a heap at the bottom.
The sedative was beginning to wear off and the Brigadier struggled to come back to his senses, he sat up in bed and saw an evil face looking in through the window at him, it looked like the face of a gargoyle.
“Jenkins chap with wings five rounds rapid!” the Brigadier shouted, his mind still woozy from the effects of the sedative. He stumbled over to the window but the face had gone, then he noticed that somebody or something was slowly turning the handle of the door………..
