Major Delguadio was dictating a memo to Corporal Bell when glancing out of the window he saw Yates running down the driveway and collapsing in a heap on to the gravel. Delguadio rushed outside, he managed to get Yates to sit up.
“Captain what is it, what on earth has happened? Come on let’s get you inside you look as though you need a drink!” Delguadio began.
“Sir we can’t trust General Lowery he’s holding the Brigadier somewhere against his will, I’m not sure why but this file will explain” Yates gasped.
Delguadio took the file from Yates and began to look through it
“Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart is staying at Honeysuckle Cottage in a village called Covenstone according to this. Captain I think you ought to take some leave yourself, you appear to be looking for some sort of conspiracy where non exists” Delguadio said. He felt the file suddenly getting hot and it burst into flames, he dropped it into the waste paper basket.
“Sir on my way back here the Land Rover developed faulty brakes, I managed to set off again only to find they worked perfectly. I didn’t get very far before the Land Rover burst into flames and blew up for no apparent reason. Look sir we can’t just sit around and do nothing, there’s something going on! Covenstone’s near Devil’s End, why would the Brigadier decide to take a holiday there?” Yates continued.
Delguadio frowned “Hmmmm may be the Brigadier saw something he wasn’t supposed to! General Lowery does seem rather reluctant to give any sort of explanation as to why the Brigadier decided to take some leave so suddenly” he mused.
“I have a feeling the Brigadier is in some sort of danger sir! Can’t we at least go to Honeysuckle Cottage and if I’m proved wrong then as you suggest I’ll take a few days off. First the Land Rover blows up and then a file bursts into flames you’ve got to agree that something strange is happening” said Yates.
“Alright Captain Yates you’ve convinced me. Let’s go and see if we can find out anything. Sergeant Benton can keep an eye on things here”.
Yates wondered who’s side Delguadio was on, would the Major simply be leading him into some sort of trap, he decided not to let his guard down and see what happened.

General Lowery arrived at Honeysuckle Cottage, the front door was wide open he took his revolver out and went inside
“Corporal Jennings where are you? Damn and blast the man! Corporal Jennings!” he called.
Jennings was still laid at the bottom of the stairs, he sat up when he heard Lowery’s voice.
“Sir, they’ve got the place completely surrounded, it’s not safe sir we have to leave, sir we have to go now!” Jennings began.
“You stupid idiot all you had to do was keep an eye on the patient, you couldn’t even do that! I do not tolerate failure Corporal Jennings, it seems you have become somewhat surplus to requirements, I shall just have to deal with the situation that’s all”.
Jennings noticed that Lowery’s eyes had turned red. Smoke began to billow from Jennings’ body, he ran outside, Lowery watched him go his eyes returned to normal he smiled and started to climb the stairs……..
