With so long to wait until Series 5, (yes, yes, I know about the specials) it seems to me that we should engage in some unfounded speculation or at least some fantasizing about the next companion. A hermaphroditic alien? A clone of Adric? Adam? A porn star turned galactic traveler? An out-of-work PM? Well? ;D

I think Sally Sparrow would make an excellent companion.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care much for Sally Sparrow?
I'd like to see maybe a trio in the TARDIS, and for once in the new series have someone NOT kiss the Doctor. Now, I know Donna only did it to shock him, but we don't want any more lovey dovey eyes at the Doctor or unrequeinted love. It's old hat.

Definitely old hat, I think that if they need romance, and let's face it they do, they should get a couple in the TARDIS. Or at least maybe two people who fancy each other, in the hands of Moffat that could work quite well. That said, I do have it on good authority the next companion will be a shapeshifting robot who lives in one of the TARDIS' back rooms.

A shapeshifting robot?! Genius idea. I wonder why they haven't done it before!?

A shapeshifting robot?! Genius idea. I wonder why they haven't done it before!? ;D If you are referring to Chamelion in veiled way, he was more of a manaquin. His two "action poses" were standing and laying on the floor. This time around it might work with a little CGI.

He was a bit naff, wasn't he? ;D A good concept and it could work better now. Although having a shape shifter may be another get out of jail free card and plot device to the stories as obviously he/she/it could adopt any form.

This time around it might work with a little CGI. NO!!! A cartoon companion is far from needed...use good animatronics instead!
