The Master had to fight every step of the way against the gale that was blowing to get to the Rectory, once there the wind died down and all was calm again. He knocked on the door, it was opened by Maybury.
“Reverend Maybury good afternoon to you, may I come in I would like to talk to you about recent strange occurrences here in the village!” the Master politely began.
Maybury frowned “I don’t think there is anything to discuss, Miss Hawthorne has a very over active imagination I suppose she’s invented all kinds of mysterious goings on and has got all the villagers believing her, well they are a gullible lot. I’m sorry you must excuse me I have a lot of work to do” he replied.
“There’s more to it then Miss Hawthorne’s imagination! You see strange apparitions have been seen here about and you can hardly have failed to notice the disappearance of the four gargoyles from the church tower” the Master continued.
“The gargoyles have been sent back to the Stonemasons they need some additional work doing to them. Now please I don’t know who you are but I’d prefer it if you leave and stop poking your nose into things that don’t concern you!” Maybury said, beginning to lose his temper.
“Reverend Maybury I’d be obliged if you would drive over to Witchwood and pick up these items from that address!” Samuels interrupted handing Maybury a piece of paper.
“But I I……...” Maybury stammered.
“Don’t worry Elijah I will deal with our guest! We need the items on that list rather urgently and our supplier is expecting you” Samuels insisted.
Maybury picked up his car keys from the table in the hallway and took the list from Samuels, he nodded to the Master and headed towards his car.
Samuels watched Maybury drive off then he said “Magister good I’ve been expecting you, perhaps you would care to come in and have a little chat, there is much we need to discuss”.
“I came to speak to Reverend Maybury, I think I’ll come back another time when he’s not quite so busy” the Master said, as he turned on his heel and started to head back towards the village green.
“The Reverend is not available to answer any questions. If you have anything you wish to say then you can say it to me, I am more then happy to discuss any issues that you feel ought to be raised like the missing gargoyles perhaps or you might like to discuss one gargoyle in particular who goes by the name of Bok You would be a welcome addition to our Inner Circle, but I sense a stubborn resilience in your mind, if you do not wish to join us then may I suggest that you keep out of our way” Samuels explained.
There was a faint red glow in Samuels’ eyes. The Master smiled and nodded.
“Don’t think I won’t find out what’s going on around here, whatever it is it’s more then apparitions and missing gargoyles. Be careful you may think you are in control of things around here but I have a few tricks of my own up my sleeve and I won’t hesitate to use them if need be” he said.
“Take care Magister little accidents are always bound to happen, you were lucky in Witchwood, you were found before you bled to death next time you may not be as fortunate” Samuels called as he closed the door, he hurried back into the study, he sat down at the desk and closed his eyes muttering some incantation under his breath.
The Master hurried back across the village green he heard a howling noise behind him when he turned round a tornado was tearing a path towards him, he took a wand like device from his pocket and pointed it at the tornado, a beam of light emitted from the device, the tornado dissipated. The Master continued on his way to the Cloven Hoof. Samuels sank back against the chair his spell broken, wearily he slumped on to the desk, using power like that always took so much out of him, but he was determined that Magister was not going to spoil things.

Miss Hawthorne had a terrible headache, she clutched her temples
“A cup of my extra strength herbal tea will soon sort me out! I’m not going to sit around here and do nothing do you hear me!” she began.
“The Master told us to wait here and that’s exactly what we are going to do, you can just sit there for a while longer at least until your colour has returned and your pulse rate isn’t so erratic” Alice replied.
Marlowe came staggering from behind the bar “What’s happening to me, Doctor Cornelius do something what’s happening arrrrrrrgh” he gasped.
Alice could see Marlowe’s hand had turned red and was beginning to glow the redness was spreading rapidly up his entire arm. It was then that the door flew open………
