Part 6 - Oxygen
****************************************************
“Oxygen,” House said as he pointed down at the environmental readout on the Tardis console. There’s almost no oxygen out there.” The Doctor moved over to confirm the reading.
“Why would there be no oxygen in the Time Tunnel complex?” Mitchell asked.
“The aliens,” Ann MacGregor breathed.
“Aliens?” asked Mitchell.
“The aliens from 1978 were inadvertently pumping oxygen out of the Time Tunnel.”
“And you forgot to mention this?” Jackson added testily.
“Most of us passed out, but we all survived. We came to after twenty minutes. That’s when Tony and Doug blew up the aliens’ equipment back in 1978, and the oxygen transfer stopped.”
“No human could survive 20 minutes with this level of oxygen,” House explained. “At the very least, you’d all be brain dead.”
“But somehow, we did survive,” countered MacGregor.
“Somehow,” mumbled the Doctor. “Maybe….because of us.”
“Then we better act quickly,” House snapped. “The oxygen level is dropping even more.”
The Doctor quickly jumped to another part of the console. “Somebody, open the doors,” he ordered. “I’ll pump oxygen out of the Tardis.
“Those closest to the Tunnel still won’t get very much,” Carter added.
“On top of it,” Mitchell said, as he pulled a small hand-held oxygen tank out of his pack. “Standard issue for most SG team missions.”
“Good lad.”
“Jackson, you stay here,” Mitchell ordered. “Give your tank to the Doctor.”
“Give yours to House,” the Doctor. “He’ll need to check the medical status the Time Tunnel people.” Mitchell reluctantly complied.
The Doctor, Ann MacGregor, Gregory House and Samantha Carter left the Tardis, each with an oxygen tank and entered the main Time Tunnel control area. Carter was fascinated by the oval shaped corridor that was the Time Tunnel. It seemed to go on into infinity.
Seven bodies were littering the floor. A man in a general’s uniform was slumped over a control panel. House stopped at each person, check their vital signs. Carter was surprised to see the self-absorbed, boorish Dr. House giving each of them some of his own oxygen so selflessly.
“Don’t revive them completely,” the Doctor warned. “They can’t know we were here.”
“Well, there was at least one casualty here,” House announced. “This woman is dead.”
“That’s me,” Ann MacGregor cried, as she looked down upon her younger self.
