I see that the Stargate franchise trying the catch up with the Trek franchise. Stargate Universe premieres soon.
How many stargate series will there ultimately be?
Any comments?

Won't this just be Lost in Space with a Stargate instead of the Robot? I undertand they'll even have a Mr. Smith-type character.

Just saw the first two of parts of the three part opening. Not bad. The character dynamics are going to be quite different from the previous Stargates.
I like the use of Eli, a computer geek/slacker who gets sucked into it all.

Hi All,
After watching the first several episodes of Stargate Universe, I'd like to write a little review.
To be sure it's very different from past incarnations. Five episodes so far, and no aliens yet, except if you counted some mysteriously swirling sand. The entire cast has been accidentally stranded on an ancient starship sent out many millennia ago. The ship is in disrepair, may be malfunctioning, and is very difficult to comprehend. Apparently, the ship was designed to seed the galaxies with stargates. However in the meantime, the Ancient learned to Ascend, so even the Ancients forgot about this ship, (called Destiny). So it is more about survival than exploration.
The show has a very stark feeling. Every character has a flawed backstory. So lots of flashbacks. In many ways it has a Galactica feel, both visually and in the imperfect characters it provides.

Sounds interesting. Sounds a little like Lost.
