I'd say 7.5/10
A good starting episode, pretty good at indtroducing the characters. It still felt a little like Matt was finding his feet , but there's some great potential there, and there's a definite build up for a great relationship between the Doctor and Amy. Love the costume and TARDIS interior on screen, they work fantastically, fitting the quirky nature of Matt's Doctor.

My thoughts:
I suppose I will get used to Matt Smith. He wasn't awful, but he's no Tennant.
Karen Gillan is a fine companion. I like the Doctor meeting her as a child first. Very timey-wimey.
I'm not sure I saw the need to redesign the Tardis interior.
I thought the alien eye-ship was rubbish.
I liked the apples-to-fish-custard sequence. (I'm having fish custard tomorrow night.) ;D

It's difficult to judge a new Doctor by his first story, but I think Smith will be fine.
Moffat does seem determined to change everything to put his own personal stamp on it. (Can anyone say 'ego'?) But how can he change the time vortex itself. It looks like clouds now.

On second viewing:
Matt Smith nails it, I don't know if it's his genuine quirkiness, Moffat's writing or the direction but those little quirks and the jokes that sometimes felt forced and awkward in the Eccleston/Tennant years feel a lot more natural. And that rooftop confrontation? He is BADASS.
The monsters weren't great but let's be honest they're not the main stars of the episode, they were Matt and Karen who were great and show such huge promise.
HATE the new theme tune. It's fine when it kicks in on Matt and Karen's names but the opening 17 seconds are just horrible.
All in all, shows signs of great promise and I cannot wait to see where Moffat, Smith and Gillan are taking us over the next 12 weeks.

Matt Smith will be a fine Doctor. (First, I had to get past the Frankenstein forehead.)
Like Krondas, I hate the new theme. It seems to be change for change sake. I would expect more from Murray Gold, and Stephen Moffat.
I am disappointed that Amy Pond was not really a police officer. She does kiss-o-grams. Sounds 20 minutes short of a prostitute. I was hoping for a stronger female role model. Not necessarily a catsuit, but something stronger than a kiss-o-gram.

Finally got to see it via YouTube. Liked Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. I find the set, music, and vortex changes arbitrary and unnecessary.
Although I am tempted by the fish custard. ;D I wonder what he will eat next week. It could be an interesting recurring gag.

Whilst the theme tune is horrible, Murray's score for the episode was great, it seems the new series has reinvigorated him!
And whilst Amy may be a kissogram, the Doctor is all about making people realise their potential so she'll no doubt become a positive role model for all the girls watching.
Also, extra points for having my mum actually interested when I watched it for a second time.
