Now we're really getting underway!
Really enjoyed this one, Matt seems to be going from strength to strength, and Amy seems to be progressing well as a character and companion. Loved the moral dilemma for the Doctor in regards to save the space whale and destroy humanity or kill the whale and save humanity, and great to see Amy come to the fore there and realise what was going on, especially with the Doctor seemingly preoccupied with the horror of what he "has" to do! And the Smilers were pretty damn creepy!
Loved the little teaser for next week with Winston and the Daleks! "I am your soldier!" I was initially thining it was going to say 'servant'. Harking back wonderfully to Power of the Daleks possibly? Next week could be bloody good too!

I loved that the beast below was actually a victim, not the typical monster behind the dystopia, like the Macra or the Mighty Jagrafess.
I think Matt Smith is much better at the manic crasiness. I don't think he's quite as good at the last-of-the-time-lord angst yet. Of course, Eccleston and Tennant really developed that for the character.
I find it great that not just characters from the present call upon the Doctor. Why wouldn't Winston Churchill avail himself of the Doctor's services? I'll be interesting to see how Churchill already knows of the Doctor.

Great story.
Although it feels like Amy has become too wise too quickly. She demonstrates almost Doctor-like intelligence figuring out the star whale's demeanor, far beyond the abilities of a mortal kissogram lady. She should still be in the wow stage.

I have a feeling that Amy isn't all she seems. The crack in her wall, the Doctor's turning off of the monitor after 'So you're lonely then, that's all?'.
As for The Beast Below, I really enjoyed it. The scene with the Doctor and Amy inside the Star Whales mouth was well written and performed where I can't help but feel in the hands of RTD it may have come across over the top. Good story, great performances, this series is really shaping up.

Yeah, you could be right there! We'll find out in time though!
And yeah, it'd have been played hugely for laughs if RTD had written it, I think the line "Right then, this isn't going to be big on dignity!" was a wonderfully witty line for the scene. Certainly made me chuckle somewhat.

The story was OK, but I wasn't overly impressed. I didn't find the smilers that creepy. It wasn't up to Moffat's usual level.
I haven't been overwhelmed by Matt Smith either. Time will tell; it always does.
