I do not think that this post will come as news to anyone, as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan are well known by now. As some know, I was in Japan not too long ago, and somewhat very important to me lives there. I got some photos from M today of Yokohama and it is almost unrecognizable, though luckily Yokohama did not get the full brunt of this catastrophe. I am sure I am not the only one offering my best wishes to Japan and its people. There are a couple of charities at the moment that have been set up to help Japan at the moment, but the best donation would probably go to the Japanese Red Cross www.jrc.or.jp/english/index.html

It sucks to be Japan right now.
I hope everyone makes a donation to help them.

I'm with you Hoichi. I hope that the catastrophe doesn't worsen for the Japanese people and I wish them all the best. My thoughts go out to them.

We should be thankful, too, that it wasn't worse than it was, and a repetition of the 2004 tsunami. I hope this nuclear crisis doesn't become another Chernobyl.

Fortunately, the plant at Fukushima is unlikely to be destroyed with quite the spectacular disastrousness of Chernobyl. It's rather better built, and had its safety features switched on when the crisis began, for starters. I suspect the more immediate concern is the snow.

Tsunami, Earthquake, Radiation, Snow. All pretty dire circumstances.
Unfortunately, starvation is next. Japan has imported 40% its food for years. Unfortunately, the areas near the reactors were food producing areas, particularly for spinach and dairy.
Pray and give.

I've heard the U.S. and other countries are banning food exports from Japan. That's going to hurt them economically when they can leats afford it.
