Fairfax looked to the Doctor as the Cybermen appeared one by one in the grand hall. The flashing lights stopped and four Cybermen were now standing before the Doctor, Fairfax and Havers. The Doctors grin had now faded, replaced by one of steely determination. 'Oh it's the paramedics, thank goodness you're here...'
One of the Cybermen turned to face the Doctor, marched right up to him. 'You are the Doctor.'
'The very same' the Doctor replied, tossing the silver tube back and forth in his hands.
'What in the world is going on here?' blustered Havers, fists clenched. 'Fairfax! Are you going to fix the King's breathing problems or not?'
Fairfax was still holding the device in his hand, he looked from it to Havers and shook his head. 'I'm afraid not, this....device is not for this world Mr Havers.'
'So you've wasted my time? You've wasted the King's time? I ought to have you locked up!'
'Mr Havers....' began the Doctor from the back of the room. '...there are four silver giants standing in your grand chamber and your main concern is locking up Professor Fairfax?' He shook his head. 'Humans....'
'Enough talk.' the Cyberman barked. 'We are here for King George IV.'
The Doctor raised his arm, pointing the silver tube at the Cyberman's chestplate. 'I'm afraid the King's not taking any visitors right now....' the whirring noise started again, and suddenly the Cybermen began disappearing in flashes of white light. The Doctor grabbed hold of one Cybermans arm and disappeared with it. Fairfax, seeing the look of fury on Havers face, did the same with the remaining Cyberman.
It was quiet, the gunfire around the Castle seemed to have stopped, which meant one of two things. Either the soldiers fighting the Cybermen in the batteries around the Castle had been succesful or the Cybermen had wiped them all out.
Anna sat, back against a cold stone wall, glancing down at the bucket of gold dust and gunpower they had brought with them. It was near enough empty, probably only enough for a couple more shots. She very much hoped the Cybermen had been defeated. She looked over to McCallum, then Norrie, both men looking exhausted.
'Is that it then lass? Did we win?' he asked, slightly out of breath.
Anna shrugged, glancing at the pile of Cybermen in the centre of the room. 'I don't know Constable, what I do know is we're pretty much out of ammunition and if there's a team larger than two Cybermen we're in a lot of trouble.'
Norrie started laughing, nervously at first but then into a full belly laugh which echoed around the cells. 'Before I met the Doctor tonight, the most action I'd seen was chasing a pick pocket through the Grassmarket. And now look at me, a soldier, fighting creatures from another world.'
Anna smiled. 'I know exactly what you mean....'
The Doctor, Fairfax and the four Cybermen were now standing in a steel lined room with a number of computer banks in it. 'The transmat controls I presume?' the Doctor asked, patting one of the control panels and glancing up at the Cybermen who were now raising their arms, slim gun barrells sliding out from their wrists.
'The Doctor must be killed.'
The Doctor raised his hands and thumbed in the direction of the computer banks. 'Now think logically here, you fire off four energy weapons in this room you risk damaging your transmat technology.'
'It does not matter, we will land this ship on the city below.'
The Doctor shrugged. 'You've got me there....fair enough, get on with it!' The Doctor looked to Fairfax who was cowering in the corner of the room, hands raised in surrender and eyes closed. 'You didn't have to come Professor.'
Fairfax opened his eyes. 'Yes I did Doctor, I must be punished for what I have done and what I attempted to do. Murder, treason, and all in the name of my loved ones....'
The Doctor placed a sympathetic hand on Fairfax's shoulder. 'Trust me when I say this Professor, as a man who's lived several centuries, some times guilt can be punishment enough.' The Doctor turned back to the Cybermen who had now lowered their weapons.
'The Cyberleader wishes to see you both.'
The Doctor and Fairfax lowered their arms. 'Alright then, take me to your leader.'
Anna, Norrie, McCallum and the two remaining soldiers in their group heard the marching getting louder. 'Major McCallum...you don't have a shipment of steel boots anywhere in the Castle do you?' Anna asked.
McCallum shook his head, readying his rifle.
'Of course you don't....' Anna raised her rifle, aiming it at the doorway as a group of six Cybermen began to march through it, weapons raised.
