Has anyone ever noticed how scary kid's TV in the 70s was? We've got a lot of the shows from that time on DVD, and shows like Shadows, Children of the Stones and Raven contain scenes that must have been really scary to young children! This was also true of Doctor Who at the same time, of course, before the Graham Williams era. You just don't seem to see it nowadays (admittedly, I don't see a great deal of kids TV these days). Maybe kids in those days were made of stern stuff!

I forgot to mention Sapphire and Steel, too, which was scarier than most horror films, but went out at half past seven!

I found Sapphire & Steel to be more surreal than scary.
But Stephen Moffat has certainly brought scary back to Doctor Who.

We were but Mary Whitehouse just didn't get that.
Sure, the Sea Devils scared me as did some aspects of star trek but it never damaged me.

The 70s was indeed a scary time for children:
But nothing in the 70s beat the creeping terror that is the Wiggles:
Nasty.

Hoichi, you are so right. This is some of the scariest video I've ever seen. Somebody must have really hated children.

Yeah, I have always thought that it is some sort of sick joke that TV channels have not picked up on. I can't speak for kids nowadays, but I'd have nightmares for months if I had seen that.

Funny thing, my 21 year-old was back from uni about a week ago, and we were watching Children of the Stones, and he said he saw what people meant about kid's tv being dumbed down, now. The 70s show is jump-out-of -your-skin scary at times!
