There are some really interesting documents posted on the BBC Doctor Who site, including early ideas for Doctor Who, early assessments of the viability and direction science fiction could take on the BBC. Interesting tidbits, worth perusing.

You're right, Prof. Fascinating stuff.

It's interesting they thought science fiction writers were unsuitable to write the show. Although I suppose each medium has its own requirements.

It was also fun to see the other concepts they had in mind.
