Pretty risque. I hope the Prof doesn't mind. Sorry. I forgot I'd actually got round to posting this! On second thoughts... "DELETE! DELETE!" It was all meant in fun, a momentary unwinding thing, playing on words. A sort of reverse risque... from the title you'd expect it to be, but then it's just silliness. But that kind of humour can backfire, or be misinterpreted giving personal offence, so I gladly withdraw it! treading less rashly Oh and dash, it's prompted some wretched Google ads... sorryyyy!

We could do Bierce's 'Devil's Dictonary'?
"HANDKERCHIEF, n. A small square of silk or linen, used in various ignoble offices about the face and especially serviceable at funerals to conceal the lack of tears. The handkerchief is of recent invention; our ancestors knew nothing of it and intrusted its duties to the sleeve. Shakespeare's introducing it into the play of "Othello" is an anachronism: Desdemona dried her nose with her skirt, as Dr. Mary Walker and other reformers have done with their coattails in our own day -- an evidence that revolutions sometimes go backward."

I don't recall objecting. What was it? John you didn't object. I just had second thoughts. It was all quite harmless really, a sort of reverse double-entendre where hinted-at suggestiveness didn't then appear. or some such. i forget! It has disappeared now into a paradox of non-existence. Only its consequences remain, this thread, now devoid of any evident efficient cause!
