Jo Grant was in a state of bewilderment here she was in the middle of London with not a soul to be seen. Everywhere was deserted, even the main shopping areas were devoid of people, however she saw a woman hurrying towards her so she decided to stop her and find out what was going on.
“Excuse me I wonder if you could tell me what’s going on! Has a state of emergency been declared and the powers that be evacuated the city, perhaps a bomb scare or something of a similar nature, only everything seemed fine yesterday when I checked in to my hotel” Jo began.
The woman stopped she just stood looking at Jo, she didn’t make a sound. Jo began to feel nervous and she protectively tightened her grip on her baby son Ben.
“Look if you could just tell me……..” Jo stopped what she was saying the woman turned on her heel and ran back the way she had come disappearing almost immediately from view. Jo hurried after her but it was too late she had gone. Suddenly it began to rain, the drops of water sizzled as they hit the ground.
“Acid rain! Come on Ben we’d better take shelter we don’t want to be caught out in this and get burned” said Jo as she hurried for shelter.
Tor had made Mears eat some breakfast before he took him to see the Master. Mears was full of questions but Tor shook his head and refused to answer them.
“Finish your breakfast you have an appointment to see the Master he is anxious to speak with you about where you have come from!” was all Tor would say.
Mears gobbled down the last slice of toast and hastily drank the glass of orange juice.
“I have to warn you that if you intend to keep me here against my will then I shall use every means at my disposal to fight you!” Mears began.
Tor smiled “Nobody is keeping anybody anywhere against their will. It’s raining outside anyway and I think you would prefer not to get wet or indeed burned” he calmly replied.
Mears frowned “Burned what do you mean burned I don’t understand?”
“There have been atmospheric disturbances since all this began which has made the rain very acidic so much so that it will burn you if you are unfortunate enough to be caught out in it, strange phenomenon but still there we have it. Right follow me and I will take you to see the Master” Tor explained.
Mears wanted to ask more questions but thought better of it since so far he had not been given any answers to the questions he had already asked.
The Master had just finished a leisurely breakfast he was finishing off his coffee and a cigar when he heard a disturbance coming from the stairwell, he snatched up his laser gun and went to investigate.
“Not more trouble with escaped humans!” he angrily mumbled.
He encountered a struggle two of his men were trying to restrain a man who fought them off and sent them crashing clumsily to the floor. The man drew his sword, in anticipation of being attacked.
The two men were quickly up on their feet. “Nobody gets to see the Master without being screened first. These are dangerous times friend and everybody has to be on their guard” one of them began.
The man smiled “Yes well as I have already explained the Master and I are old acquaintances” he replied
The Master shook his head “It’s alright Dane, Tobe we’re dealing with friend here not foe. Allow me to introduce you to my son Captain Jacob Andros.” he said.
“Forgive us Master we didn’t know! We have placed sensor devices at the arc and we are just waiting for the rain to subside before we go and take some readings” Dane replied.
Very well carry on! Jacob it’s so good to see you I had no idea you were in this particular quadrant of space! So tell me what you know about this particular dilemma”
The Master escorted Jacob into his small office.
Jo was sheltering from the rain Ben had begun to cry
“Shhhh Ben it’s alright don’t be frightened everything will be fine you’ll see!” she whispered.
The door she had been leaning on swung open, revealing an inky blackness which she felt herself being pulled into…………………………………….
