Jo tried to stop herself from being swallowed up by the darkness she resisted as hard as he could but it was no use she couldn’t stop her feet from moving. The door closed behind her with an echoing thud. Ben whimpered, Jo hugged him close to her. In the cloying darkness a strange red light lit up the floor and a disembodied voice said.
“Follow the red line for processing. Report to Section B5 for screening any deviation from the line and you will be terminated immediately”
Outside the rain had stopped and Dane and Tobe made their way over to Westminster Bridge where a strange shimmering arc hovered at the far end. Tobe took out two sensor devices from the ruck sack he had been carrying on his shoulder.
“Careful Tobe don’t get too close you know how unpredictable the arc is, if you touch it you’ll get rather a nasty shock!” Dane warned.
Tobe glared at him “Thank you Dane but I do know what I am doing! The Master just needs to get some readings, temperature and molecular structure that sort of thing” he snapped back.
“I know all I am saying is that we don’t really know anything about it or what it can do apart from the fact that it’s impenetrable. Maybe that’s where all the citizens of London went. How do we know that these things aren’t hovering about all over the city?”
“Then it’s not impenetrable is it Dane!” Tobe replied with a weary sigh. He cautiously approached the arc which shimmered and distorted the air around it as he got closer he could hear the steady humming noise that it made as he got closer the humming noise stopped, he place the sensor devices as close as he dared as he stepped quickly back, the arc lashed out knocking Tobe off his feet, as Dane rushed towards him some kind of tentacle of energy wrapped itself around Tobe’s ankle and began to pull him inside the arc
“Do something Dane, quickly get the sonic lance from my ruck sack, hurry up!” Tobe shouted.
Dane emptied the contents of the rucksack out onto the ground frantically searching for the sonic lance, he found it and threw it over to Tobe, it fell just out of Tobe’s reach, the tentacle dragged him swiftly towards the arch and then in a sizzling flash of an electrical discharge he was gone. Dane ran as fast as he could back to the Museum.
Jacob was trying to explain to the Master what was going on
“All I know is that I detected a huge source of energy and it seems to be destroying everything in it’s path. I did manage to pin point where the epicentre of it was and….”
Jacob stopped when he saw Tor coming in with Mears
“Sorry to interrupt Master but you did say you wanted to speak to Mr Mears, however if it is not convenient then I can always come back with him later” Tor apologised.
“Its’ quite alright Tor. Bring Mr Mears in. If you give me the coordinates of where this epicentre is please Jacob then I shall come with you and we shall investigate. For now if you will excuse me, I need to have a little chat with Mr Mears here. Sit down Mr Mears, let me pour you some tea” the Master said.
“It’s cold” Mears said.
“Cold what’s cold, what are you talking about!” Tor asked.
It’s cold!”
“Mr Mears what on earth……. Oh, oh dear yes I see what you mean. Gentlemen I think it’s time we got out of here. Come on quick!” the Master got up from his desk and ushered everybody out of his office, before he shut the door Tor noticed that the entire room was being covered in ice that seemed to be appearing out of nowhere.
Jo had come to an abrupt halt she found she couldn’t go any further, the overhead strip lighting flickered on. she found herself in what appeared to be a store room which was piled high with boxes of different shapes and sizes. Suddenly she felt an icy hand on her shoulder she spun around and that is all she saw a hand nothing else she screamed and set Ben off crying again, as she tried to retrace her steps she saw another hand appear and another and another and another………………….
