Chapter 9
The Master held on to Kez and Max with all his strength, but he couldn’t hold on much longer as they were being sucked right into the middle of the maelstrom.
“Please Emil don’t let me go!” Kez pleaded.
Suddenly there was some sort of implosion and the maelstrom along with Jazaran disappeared. It was as if nothing had happened the cottage was once again in one piece. The Master found himself helping Kez and Max up on to their feet.
“Right that settles it we are getting out of here! Come on we’ll go and get Caesar, things have gone far enough. From now on we all stay together” the Master said.
“But who on earth was that chap, and where has he gone to! Hang on a minute you’re not seriously suggesting that we go out into all that snow! We’ll freeze to death out there!” Max protested.
The Master sighed and shook his head “Max we either freeze to death out there, or meet some ghastly end if we stay here! I’d rather take my chances outside. That being or whoever he is calls himself Jazaran I don’t know where he came from but I have a nasty feeling that he will return” he replied firmly.
Caesar seemed reluctant to be up and around, the Master’s patience was beginning to wear thin but he did his best to try and persuade Caesar that they really weren’t safe staying in the cottage.
“Caesar please I cannot explain any of this to you, it would take far too long. I think you realise now that you shouldn’t be here, occupying this particular time is dangerous for you it affects your very existence and if you don’t return to your own time there will be catastrophic repercussions for everything and everybody” he explained.
“Jazaran said he would explain! I don’t understand I didn’t want to work in that bank I only took the job because well because it seemed the right thing to do at the time and if I don’t make that appointment then I…. What am I talking about I don’t understand, please you have to help me” Caesar replied beginning to panic.
“Bits and pieces of your memory are starting to return. I give you my word Caesar that Kez and I will do everything we can to help both you and Max return to your proper place in time and space” the Master continued.
“Caesar I know how confusing this must be for you! But we have to do as Emil says” Kez added gently trying to urge Caesar on to his feet.
Caesar reluctantly and rather unsteadily got out of bed and on to his feet, he wobbled slightly, the Master steadied him.
“Take your time Caesar, that’s it come on down the stairs, give me a hand Max, you support Caesar from the other side! Stay close Kez! Right here we go once outside if we stick to the roads I am sure we shall be alright, I intend for us to find some other form of shelter whilst we decide on a course of action. With Jazaran gone I am confident we will soon be able to leave this miserable place without too much of a problem” the Master said.
Jazaran found himself facing an acropolis like structure he tightened his grip on his sword
“What am I doing here! I demand to be released, I have done nothing wrong! You instructed me to help the subjects to reach the agreed location! I am only just beginning that task, I can use any means you see fit to accomplish my mission! ” he began with a frown.
Jazaran stared hard into the gloom of the acropolis but couldn’t see very much, he felt himself being pulled towards it, his eyes widened with fear
“No it is not time you said I would not be shown the Talisman of Zree not until I had done what was asked of me! Noooooooooo I will not permit this you said………”
Jazaran disappeared into the gloomy interior of the acropolis, huge steel doors swung too behind him cutting off his cries of protest and leaving behind an eerie silence…….
