I think he was key in the evolution of DW. His Doctor was more outwardly heroic, just as Hartnell was the antihero. Many of the Doctors who followed, were variations of his model, sans frilly shirts.

I'm a big fan of Pertwee, too. I love the fun, runaround adventure feel of his era, although that didn't stop them from often putting serious "messages", often on an ecological theme, in his stories in a manner that was not too "in your face".

He was certainly the best Doctor. Though the previous Doctors were great, Pertwee hate that little bit extra...
I think it was the frilly shirts and capes...
