I just rewatched the TV Movie. I thought McGann was OK, but poorly directed and written. Such rubbish. It really ought not be canon. "Half-human on my mother's side"-- completely pointless.
The Master being put on trial by the Daleks, who normally exterminate first, and never ask questions later. Pointless crap.
People may complain about Davies, but at least, his crap has a point.

Agreed!
But with a regeneration from McCoy to McGann, it would be hard not to accept this as cannon. Also, McGann's face was drawn in the Mr Smith's book in Human Nature/Family of Blood and that has to make it officially cannon.

I thought McGann made a good attempt at portraying the Doctor as for Eric Roberts as the Master well don't get me started on that grrrrrrr

The script was horrible and poorly structured, wasting screen time with too many unnecessary references, only to say to fans 'see, we really know Doctor Who'.
Davies doled out those references only when necessary, a much better approach.
I didn't care for Roberts, (I rarely do). But he too was a victim of poor scriptwriting and direction. The "I always dress for the occassion" line was pure rubbish.
Some cannon we must regrettably live with. But let's all agree to never mention th 'half-human' thing again. He must have been speaking metaphorically.
McGann's saving grace was been his Big Finish audio work.

I have erased it from my memory. Therefore it cannot have happened. Erase! Erase!

I didn't like the idea of bats in the TARDIS and as for the doctor being half human that was just stupid! I think it was a waste of time and also the Doctor wouldn't just walk out of the TARDIS and be shot but instead he should have checked the scanners!

Well, I don't really think he had any need to check the scanner before leaving the Tardis as he knew he had landed on modern day Earth. This was something he had done countless times before without being shot as soon as he steps foot outside the door.

It would make sense to check the scanner. Perhaps he was distracted by the Master's box cracking open.
