You've probably already heard that Elisabeth Sladen will be reprising her role as Sarah Jane Smith during the next series.
Don't get me wrong. I thought she was great. But I wonder why she's coming back now. She's a lot older now. I just get the feeling it's a publicity stunt.

It'll be interesting to see how she's brought back. I still hope they bring back the Brig and Iain Chesterton....and of course Adric. Well, maybe not the last bit!

I don't think Russell Davies will be bringing a lot of the old companions back. I was surprised about Sarah for two reasons. First, Elisabeth Sladen had refused previous offers to return. Second, Davies seems intend on moving the show forward and not dwelling on the past, unlike JNT.
I expect Sladen will play it differently than she did previously. She's older, more mature. I hope she doesn't scream.

I hate the fact that RTD doesn't look to the past, but that is another discusion........
I like Sarah Jane. She rarely screamed...though she wimpered...

I don't see the harm in it myself if it is a one-off. It keeps the long-term fans happy aswell as introducing the newer fans to someone special from The Doctors past.

I'm all for Sarah making a come back ;D
She was one of my favourite companions, and one that the girls who watch the show could identify with, since she wasn't usually given to screaming all over the place

I understand that it's only for one story, and I think if they write it well it'll be a very good thing. It'll be interesting...when, eventually, I finally get to see it.
Actually I think Rose might find it helpful to meet Sarah Jane, who has some experience in dealing with a freshly regenerated Doctor.

Yes, Sara should definitely return. She was a much under-valued character who had potential far beyond her all-too-brief appearance. And such a tragic end... aged instantly to death by the Daleks Time-Destructor.
Eh... What do you mean, 'NOT Kingdom'?... ah, you must have meant the OTHER Sarah...
Wasn't she shot in the back by K9 or ejected into a parallel reality or something?

I've heard she will be coming back as a school headmistress. If this is true, I wonder why they've chosen to put her in that role, when she was an investigative journalist in the old series. We never saw her do much investigating, though, except in the season with Pertwee, so I think there would be a good opportunity here to actually show her doing her job. Maybe the Doctor could turn up in the middle of some investigation she's undertaking.
A story with Sarah-Jane in it could be a really good story - I hope they don't make a hash of it.

I thought Tony Head was playing "The Headmaster" so maybe Sarah Jane is a media teacher or something?

I thought by now, she would be an editor or something more senior. If there wanted a headmaster, then they could have had Ian or Barbara come back.

I think bringing back too many past elements could be a mistake but in the case of Sarah Jane Smith it isn't.
I am happy we had the Daleks again and we are going to see the Cybermen. But if we are going to use the occasional old element why not have the Sea Devils rise out of the sea? They re-did a bit of spearhead (shop window dummies) in Rose so why not that other iconic moment?
Sarah, K9 and the Cybermen and I'm happy. Would be nice to see the Sea Devils (pertwee style not JNT style) and a proper story with the autons. Out of the new monsters I'd like to see more of the Slitheen.
Sarah coming back made me really happy I am looking forward to her even more than the cybermen (who I also love.)

The Sea Devils is one of my earliest memories of being frightened at watching Doctor Who.
