So, what did people think of tonight's episode?

I liked it, a good way to start off a new series and a new Doctor. By linking it all back to their "first date" we had the idea of the Doctor and Rose falling in love all over again and also reinforced the idea to newish viewers that he is still the same man by having a couple of old faces thrown in. It wasn't the best of episodes, but there were some brilliant bits, David Tennants Doctor is superb and just instantly comes across as the Doctor, Billie was excellent as both Rose and Cassandra, RTD has finally nailed the mix of quirky humour and drama and theSamba moves were pulled off brilliantly, I shudder to think what Eccleston would have looked like....uncomfortable probably. The series is shaping up to be absolutely brilliant.
The bad things however: The Face of Boe's secret was a bit of a cop out, but I guess we do need to have these little things to keep us guessing. Old School Enigmatic? Yes, absolutely. What is it with the new series and zombies? Don't get me wrong I love some zombie action but seriously now.
3.5/5

To be honest, I didn't think much of it. I had been hoping for something better, after the marked improvement in The Christmas Invasion, but I was disappointed. I actually thought it was worse than any story from last year. The plot was very thin, and we weren't given much background information about the cats' motivations for instance. Like Rose last year, it seemed to sacrifice plot for looking good. Nor were we spared RTD's "humour" - "I'm a chav!". Blimey, they still know about chavs 5 billion years in the future! I also wasn't very impressed by Tennant. So far, he seems to have even less character or gravitas than Eccleston. Although the scene where he realised the sort of experiment that was going on was good.
I'll watch this series through to the end, to see if there is any improvement. If there isn't, then I think I'll give up on it. Sorry to say that, but it's what I feel right now.

I think Billie Piper overacted quite badly in this, the end was silly and it was far too rushed.......other than that it was OK and a lot better than 'Rose' and 'The Christmas Invasion'.

Ah-hem, I think that was kind of the point. Afterall, Cassandra is a hugely over the top, very camp character and Billie was interpreting this, in my opinion very enjoyably.

Do you think we should have a special spoiler thread?

Hi! I liked it - pretty much (just watched it on video tonight, recorded courtesy of my Mum'n'Dad, as I was walking the West Highland Way last week then up to Aberdeen for a wedding reception so didn't catch it live).
Some comments: New Earth looked great, and Billie's acted response to being there: 'I'll never get used to this!' helped a lot to make it feel 'real'. The Cassandra personality switching was well-acted by all. I really like Tennant's portrayal. Chip/C's final scene I found really moving. Oddly...
Zombies... hmm. RTD's plots seem weak on the technical side, which I find disappointing, I prefer my sci-fi 'hard' rather than 'fantasy'... curing '1000 diseases' instantly with a hasty cocktail of intravenous drips, the healing effect being passed on by touch, belongs in the realm of fairy tales rather than science fiction. If these people had been reared in the dark without normal human contact, how could they speak? walk, even? Duh...
A flawed but inspiring story. A bit like a re-hash of previous stories: 'The Doctor Dances'(healing, happy ending) with 'The Christmas Invasion'(moral high ground, bringing down the ruthless) with 'Rose/The Wakeful Dead'(arms-outstretched zombie menace breakout).
I'd give it 7 out of 10.

Do you think we should have a special spoiler thread? Perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea. As I'm watching Series 1 here in the US, I find I know too much of the plot ahead of time. The trouble is I'm not sure I'd have enough will power not to read a spoiler thread. ;D
