I can now reveal ;D that... according to my subconscious or whatever... that the next actor to play the Doctor will be...
Richard Erinering!
Hmm... no, I haven't heard of him either. But that was definitely the name.
Looked to be 50 or so... wavy grey hair... stoutish, not particularly tall. Rather like the guy who played that detective chef who ran a restaurant a few years ago whose name I can't remember. Oh, and he had glasses. Thinnish frames. Seemed an affable sort, probably not as energetic as the last two incarnations.
Likely to wear jumpers, sit in armchairs or libraries, and take a leisurely methodical studious approach. Approachable and friendly, though, like a kind uncle... one who knows a lot more than he generally cares to show.
Sorry, can't recall anything about any companion for the above. But I think a boy-girl pair a la Polly and Ben, or Zoe and Jamie, would suit best. A younger bloke to do the running about and physical stuff, leaving the Doctor to be cerebral and wise and caring and technological and - just occasionally - surprise everyone by some feat of derring-do, bravery and exertion.
I don't think I've ever dreamed of a non-appointed Doctor actor before.
If the next Doctor IS that actor or a lookalike, I will be SO... bemused.

I once dreamt Tony Slattery was the Doctor. At least he exists.

Well... that set-up all sounds a bit too traditional for RTD, doesn't it?

So is it official that David Tennant is leaving the series? I hope not just yet. I still haven't recovered from the departure of Christopher Eccleston. But I guess the fear of typecasting looms large in the mind of most actors. No one wants to suffer the fate of Adam West. Cornelia is right about RTD favoring the unconventional. I doubt if he goes static after casting dynamic guys like Eccleston and Tennant in the role. Besides, his take on the Doctor has acquired so many new fans all over the world, why mess with a winning forumla? Then again, it's anybody's guess...

One of my best friends has a boyfriend in Cardiff and last night when we were drinking decided that I should be the next Doctor and she should be my companion, we did a few runs up Union Street and I think we were very good. My mate thinks Sam West should be the next Doctor, not really familiar with his work though. Anyway, we have (allegedly) a season and a half before Richard Erinering.

Google Richard Erinering. Go on. You'll like it. Honestly.

Surely that now means he exists?

I heard somewhere that Hugh Grant had been offered the role at some time. So I guess anything is possible......okay, I'll resist the urge to tell a Grant joke right now..

Google Richard Erinering. Go on. You'll like it. Honestly. Hi Buglass! I did... and it said 'did you mean richard engineering?' Plus, gave two links to this very thread. (Am I missing something?) If he exists and gets the role, of course he will be 'engineering' whenever he is scripted to tinker with the TARDIS or other tech. And if I, or better someone who looks as I described, changed name to suit, then that person would be 'engineering' fulfilment of my dream. ;D

It basically means that Richard Erinering now exists in google whereas previously he only existed in your dream!
Well I thought it was good...
Hugh Grant was offered the role on the off-chance back in 2004. Recently he was quoted as saying "I was offered the role of The Doctor a few years back and was highly flattered...The danger with those things is that it's only when you see it on the screen that you think, 'Damn, that was good, why did I say no?'"
Of course he did play The Doctor in The Curse of Fatal Death for Comic Relief.

Hugh Grant is cute and sexy, but I can't see him as the Doctor. The Curse of Fatal Death was a parody. Grant is a little 'light' and silly for the role.
