According to the Sun, John Simms from Life on Mars may be playing the Master in Series 3. Of course, I attribute this to Russell T Davies reading my fan fiction, Firefly, to figure out how to finally revive and extract the Master from the Eye of Harmony. ;D

Yay and a cracking story it is too Prof Seriously though I don't think we will get an explanation as to how the Master escapes from The Eye of Harmony, we never got any explanations as to how the Ainley Master escaped his various nasty fates

I'm not sure about the Master returning. I sort of takes away from the pathos of the Doctor being the last Timelord. Plus the Master grew more and more over the top after Roger Delgado passed away, which was OK for a kids show. But in the new series, RTD seems to be playing it more adult.
I suppose we'll just have to watch.

I would love to see the character approached from a slightly different angle, perhaps we could see less of his evil side

Davies saying in one the Doctor Who Confidentials, that he expected someday the Master would be brought back, but he wasn't going to do it.

The current rumour is that John Simm is playing Saxon, who may or may not be The Master. I can't wait to find out.
