So what did everyone think?
A very good episode I thought, despite the fact I'm not very fond of witch stories.
I liked the part where Queen Elizabeth I had already met him. I hope the answer of how and why comes later this series. My only question is, does he antogonise every queen he meets? ;D

Well he's not a very authoritarian character is he?
Loved it, thought it was great fun, even if the witches were a bit over the top. Again, I have to say, this is the shaping up to be the best of the new series'.
And the script just sparkled
"57 Academics just punched the air..."

I found it quite an acceptable story. Good, but not great. Although I find the repeated references to Rose tiresome. The Shakespeare "Can I use that?" quotations bits were funny.
I did find it odd that no one questioned the presence of a black woman in 1599, especially so anacronistically dressed. The 9th Doctor had Rose dress for the time period. Why not do the same for Martha, whose race might make her more susceptible in that time period?

I thought it was a fun episode. Not as enjoyable as the previous week, but good nonetheless. I'm a big Rose fan. But even I'm beginning to find the constant references to her...a bit tiresome. I can only presume that Rose will come back at some point in the series...probably series 4. There's just too much talk about her for it to be pointless. I suspected they might ignore Martha's race altogether. This is a family show...so I didn't expect a big deal about her culture...I prefer it that way for now..

There's a comment in DWM about dealing with Martha's race in terms of the book "Sting of the Zygons" in which Stephen Cole says that you risk trivialising a subject if you're not gonna deal with something head on, and there's no real place or time for that in Doctor Who.

It was a good episode, but can we please drop the references to Rose now? She has gone and The Doctor should move on. He didnt cry after Sarah Jane or any of the others after they left.
Also, I wish they would drop the camp comedy. Last week it was the expelling of the radiation, this week it was the re-starting of the heart. David camps the comedy up to the hilt and it gets annoying. Just look back at the body swapping in New Earth to see what I mean.
Besides that, the withches were great and it had a good story and I think that it was all boosted by the stunning locations.

The starting the heart bit didn't bother me, but I agree the radiation in the shoes thing was stupid. And it makes the Doctor more Superman-like, which I think is a bad thing. (Canon Nit Pick: Didn't radiation cause the Doctor's third regeneration. So why wasn't he immune then?)
And yes, the locations were grand. One good thing around the new show is that it got away from the three-wall set look of the old show.
