Discuss 'Daleks in Manhattan'!
I thought this was a cracking story, harking back to the classic Dalek story for the first time since the series returned. The American accents were a lot less dodgy than I was expecting, and a nice bit of history for the kids. Loved the idea of the Daleks building the Empire State Building, and RTD suggesting that 'The Chase' Daleks stored the Empire State Building in the Dalek memory banks, prompting Sec to travel back there...fanwanky speculation goodness right there.
David Tennant, once again was on top form and has really improved this series. Can't wait to see him let rip against the Daleks next week.
Freema, again is just fantastic, loved her ranting at the Dalek.
Now, the plot. Like I say, very classic Dalek story; hiding out of sight, army of slaves, manipulating a human who has high hopes, taking it to a terrifying next stage with the Sec/Human hybrid. Which would have been even better if 1) The RT hadn't spoilt it and 2) The effect of merging with Sec wasn't so...cartoony. Oh and 3) If he had spoken with a more Dalek like voice.
Oh, and 'The Dalek race shall walk once more' had the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end.
Of course, we still have the second episode to go, and I think this is shaping up to be the new series' classic story, to be remembered by new fans much like we all love 'Genesis of the Daleks'. Some great supporting characters Hugh Quarshie's Morgan Freemanesque character, and Laszlo and Tallulah looking forward to seeing how their stories pan out. Great great stuff and I cannot wait for next week.
