I thought this was one of the best stories yet. The pain of choosing between a normal life as John Smith and his life as The Doctor was very well done.
Baines was a very well done villian.
The only thing I didn't care for was the "magical" way the Doctor disposed of the various family members, in mirrors, etc.

Absolutely loved it, my mate seems to be the only person in Britain who didn't like it. Thought David Tennant was incredible, and the descriptions of the Doctor were brilliant, especially Smiths 'And that's who you want me to be?' responses.
I quite liked the way he disposed of the Family, it showed the Doctor at his most ruthless, suggesting that the reason he planned to let them die out after three months was because he was being kind.
Doctor-lite again (sort of) next week, but it's a Steven Moffat script so who cares?
I'm gonna be all gushing and give it a 10

Thought is was FANTASTIC!!! Along with Human Nature, it really turned expectations on it's head. I'd love to see more stories like this, unlike "Fear Her"-type rubbish.

I haven't been bothering too much with this season, the earlier episodes of which I found dull and predictable. However, I read glowing reviews of Human nature and decided to watch this two parter - and i was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. In fact, along with Dalek, it's one of the few stories of the new series I'd consider worth watching again. I must admit, my heart sank when I heard this story would involve the Doctor falling in love with a human woman, however, it was conveyed well, just for once without the sentimentality being cloying or contrived. It was interesting too, just how good Tennant was as "John Smith", so much better than when he's playing the fool. It confirms what I've always thought, that he'd be great if he could only play the role of the Doctor a bit more seriously. The main problem I found was the scarecrows, there being no real explanation of what they were or how the Family was controlling them. But that's just one thing. Also, I thought the ending to the story, at the War memorial, was genuinely moving.
Obviously RTD kept his claws out of this one. It must have taken all the self-control he had.

I finally was able to see this story over the Internet. It was extremely good. I agree with others that sometimes what the Doctor and other aliens do seems a bit too magical. A lot was left unexplained such as how did the young boy have psychic abilities. However, I found most of the story quite touching. Especially, the epilogue following the boy, ending at the war memorial. A rated it a 10.
