Speculation elsewhere on the Rani leads me to an odd thought
('Rani' is a real title, a high Indian female potentate, by the way - in keeping with renegade Timelords'/ladies' love of grandiosity).
In the 'Time War', did all the Gallifreyans get deleted from all of time and space? as if they have never been?
Simultaneously negating all of their forms in EVERY regeneration, not just their latest ones?
That would take a heck of a swipe at history. The renegade non-non-interventionist ones have hardly been idle in cosmic affairs...
and the Doctor's own timeline and existence have held numerous events dependent on the actions of other Timelords/ladies. If these incidents were all undone how could he be here and be who he is?
If they've NOT all been removed so absurdly completely from existence throughout space AND time, could the Doctor now still travel to times and places where they existed (maybe in their former, hitherto-unmet, regenerations) and meet them there/then?
I have in mind particularly the Rani. I wrote some episodes on the BBCi messageboards in my story 'Pick-Up Point' depicting her younger pre-Kate O'Mara self, her death-fall and regeneration.
The (my!) cat-people she created from human colonists by genetic engineering experiments, the Azen, have appeared in close likeness in 'New Earth' and 'Gridlock' (hey, I even had a cat-Matron in my story! and a faith-based hospital/hospice environment with something nasty suspected in the cellar... genetic manipulation laboratories...)
I must say, I like the use that has been made of them. Especially their nobler character that came through in 'Gridlock'.
I would like to see my backstory idea for the Rani taken up too.
I'd tied her in with corrupt surgeon Mehendri Solon (of 'The Brain of Morbius') as sometime accomplice, and Osiran technology; also Ice-Warriors, Silurians and Sea-Devils (all of whom have reason to hold a grudge against her). Plenty of possible plotlines there, then.
BBC types may contact me if they wish, with money in hand.
;-D
